Goin’ with the flow

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

After 30 years of perfect performance, the old water pump in the fish tank finally quit. Not a bad run if you ask me. I installed a new pump this week and got things flowing again. Pictured is the installed 20HD BlueLine pump rated at 480 gph. I had forgotten just how quiet these things should be.

Come bust a move where the games are played. It’s chill, it’s fresh, it’s Noah’s Arcade.

Green Laser through Smoke

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

This weekend, while camping up in Kings Canyon, we were experimenting with a Green Laser. Beginning with a few puffs from a cigar into the air, we waved the laser around and got some impressive results!

…and not the other way around. This place was a food court first and a full-size ice rink second.

Smokin’ Martini

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

BJ’s Restaurant has a new drink on their menu, the Smokin’ Martini. Essentially it’s just a regular martini, but it’s taken to another level with a fragment of dry ice.

Star Trek: The Experience at Neonopolis

Friday, May 8th, 2009

On September 1, 2008, The Star Trek Experience at Las Vegas Hilton closed it’s doors and ended a 10 year patronage at the hotel. Almost immediately after the departure, rumors began to spring up about the Experience’s Bar and Restaurant reopening in Downtown Freemont Street, Las Vegas. Negotiations with city planners were made and rumors were confirmed. The bar would open at Neonopolis in time for the premier of the new Star Trek film.

A few weeks before the premier, it was announced that the Bar and Restaurant would not be open in time to launch with the film, but would still be opening in the near future. This weekend, we went to investigate and see just how much progress has been made. Considering that Neonopolis has been open for several years now, we expected some light traffic and a few familiar stores in addition to a large portion well into construction for the new Bar and Restaurant. What we saw blew us away.

Like a scene out of Resident Evil, the place was a ghost town. Almost no stores were open and there was absolutely no construction underway. The place was dead. It was apparent that the media hype was just that. I’ll be astounded if anything returns to this dilapidated structure, less a wrecking crew.

Clippers vs. Kings

Friday, April 10th, 2009

The Clippers hosted the Kings on Friday, April 10th. The Clippers also decimated the Kings on Friday, April 10th. The seats were on the 300 deck, but right on the edge at center court. Not a bad vantage point for $12.

Nokia Plaza

Friday, April 10th, 2009

If you haven’t been to downtown Los Angeles in a while, I highly recommend you check out the new Nokia Plaza. With the amenities of the Block at Orange, and the pizazz of Las Vegas, this new spot is a great spot to check out on a weekend evening. I took this picture from across the street in front of the Staples Center.
