Really?!

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

I’m not really sure how to explain this. Apparenty a facility of this type is no more exciting than a pay phone or mail box. Where the hell am I?!

The Canoe Club

Not exactly the best part of town, but this spot was certainly a local favorite. The bathroom, or washroom as they call it, was the most interesting. The sink was shared by the men and womens room. Not only could you hear everything that went on in the other room, but you could also wash eachothers hands.

Darcy’s Pub

Great little spot in downtown Victoria. I was surprised to find that they accept U.S. dollars.

Observe the speed limit

World Traveler

I have officially achieved “world traveler” status! Welcome to Canada, ay!

Through the fog

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Visibility was pretty low on our day at sea. The low temperature kept pretty much everyone off the deck. I half expected to see the Black Pearl emerge from beyond the veil of mist off in the distance.

Aye Aye, Cap’n!

I got a chance to converse with the captain of our ship for a little bit. Typically, a photo opp with him costs money and is done on a special night, but I guess I made a good impression!

The Crown Grill

Tonight we tried the steakhouse on board. We had an excellent view of the snow capped montains of Alaska.

Maybe next time

Like many stampeders who traveled her a century ago, I leave the city of Skagway empty handed, having found no gold. I suppose I can take solace in the fact that none of the members of my party died of disease or starvation.

Tomorrow we’ll be at sea all day and arive in Victoria the next day.

Skagway Lower Lake

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

The surounding forest is full of hiking trails. I took a quick 1 mile hike up to Lower Lake and was amazed at how dead silent it was. The only detectable sounds were that of the salmon breaching the emerald glass water surface every few seconds. Truely an impressive landscape.
